At the end of the 12-week study, a standardized medical record review was conducted and data were analyzed. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS, version 24.0. A p value of <0.05 was considered to be statistically significant.
All patients included in the study were from the Department of General Medicine at the Medical University of Warsaw and were between 18–65 years old, with a mean age of 58.2±13.6 years (range: 52–83 years). All patients were admitted to the University Medical Centre, Warsaw (Poland) between 2008 and 2012, with an average of 12.3±3.9 years of follow-up (range: 9–14 years).
The study was a prospective cohort study. The patients were admitted to the Department of General Medicine at the Medical University of Warsaw between 2008 and 2012.
